New Years Reflection

I am very inclined to make promises to myself that I can’t keep, meaning that New Years resolutions have a special place in my life. I often resolve not to resolve to do anything, but end up breaking this resolution by resolving to do things anyway, and then not following through on the latter resolution. Either way I can’t seem to get everything done that I want to get done. Being task-oriented is an inevitable part of being in school and I find myself becoming so accustomed to it that I have to re-learn how to relax and do nothing on the holidays. Unfortunately, once I have learned to relax it is time to return to school.

So this year I resolve not to have or not have resolutions, but to be resolute whatever the case. I resolve to be resolute about work habits, productivity and motivation, and perhaps even physical exercise. I am very excited to see the fruits of the labor of others this year as well, namely Melanie Kampen’s thesis (see previous post) and David Driedger’s great books workout: http://thedescribe.wordpress.com/great-books-reader/

The next two posts, I hope, will be responses. The first to Melanie’s abstract, and the second to David’s list.

Happy New Years All!

I also resolve to be resolute, but not about physical exercise. One cannot do everything, right?

Best,

Ha! You'll notice I have no end date on that one! Like you though I hope to approach it resolutely with some of the disciplines I have developed.

Happy New Year.
